Can your classroom grow the tallest forest?

Pick up your Project Forest Seed Kit and grow Lodgepole Pine trees from seed with your students for a chance to win $500!

Project Forest and Ten Peaks Innovation have joined forces to encourage the next generation of environmental supporters through the Project Forest Young Roots Scholarship. The classroom that grows the tallest forest (a cumulative measurement of all the individual trees) will win $500 to put towards a sustainable initiative of their choice.

To enter: 

  1. Students will all receive a Project Forest Seed Kit at the Tea Peaks Innovation Xchange, it will be included in their swag bags.
  2. Follow the planting instructions on the QR code located on the box.
  3. Submit the following media to the Young Roots Scholarship webpage to be eligible for the $500 prize:
    1. Photo of Your Forest: One photo of all the seeds your class has started growing in their pots. Upload by Dec. 31, 2024
    2. Photo of Your Tallest Tree: One photo of the tallest seedling in your class placed next to a ruler (place the ruler in line with the base of the pot). Upload by Feb. 15, 2025
    3. Photo of Your Forest: One photo showing all the seedlings growing in your classroom. Upload by April 15, 2025 
    4. Video of Your Forest: One 2 – 5 minute video showing all the seedlings in your classroom along with the cumulative measurement written out in centimetres. Upload by June 13, 2025

The winning classroom will be announced on June 17th and again at the 2025 Ten Peaks Innovation Xchange

*Please note that photos will be shared on the Ten Peaks Innovation social media and the Project Forest social media platforms. 

How to measure your forest: 

Measure your seedling from the base of the pot to the top of the seedling using a ruler with centimetres. Repeat this for each of the living trees in your classroom. Add all of the individual measurements together to get a cumulative total. The classroom with the highest cumulative total for their trees will win $500.

  • Be a Ten Peaks Innovation Xchange participating classroom
