Meet the New Faces of Project Forest: Josh Alexis and Norine Shim

At Project Forest, we’re dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship and building strong relationships with First Nations through our rewilding projects. This year, we are excited to introduce two new team members who embody these values—Josh Alexis, our new Indigenous & Rewilding Specialist, and Norine Shim, our new Executive Assistant. Both bring a wealth of experience and passion to their roles, and we’re thrilled to have them on board.

Josh Alexis: Indigenous & Rewilding Specialist

Josh Alexis joins Project Forest as our Indigenous & Rewilding Specialist, a position made possible through the generous support of our Diamond Willow partner, Pembina Pipeline Corporation. With a background in Forestry and strong connections with many First Nations, Josh’s role is vital in maintaining and growing our relationships with Indigenous partners, while developing meaningful rewilding projects that benefit both the environment and people.

As a Stoney Nakota, Josh has a profound connection to the forest and the land. He brings with him not only technical expertise but a cultural responsibility to share knowledge and strengthen the relationship between Canadians, First Nations, and the land we all share.

In his own words, Josh expresses his passion for this work:
“I am passionate about making a big-picture impact that benefits both Indigenous Peoples and all Canadians. My spirit aligns with Project Forest’s core values, and as a Stoney Nakota, I feel a profound connection to the forest and the land. These lands are integral to our health, ceremonies, and identities.”
“For generations, the forest has provided us with resources, medicines, foods, stories, and spiritual guidance. It brings me joy to be the first at Project Forest to embark on a journey that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.”

Josh’s passion, knowledge, and humility make him a perfect fit for this role, and we look forward to the lasting legacy he will help create at Project Forest.

Norine Shim: Executive Assistant

We are equally thrilled to welcome Norine Shim as our new Executive Assistant, a position also made possible thanks to the support of Pembina Pipeline Corporation. Norine comes to Project Forest with over a decade of experience as an administrative professional, having worked in both the private and public sectors. Her background includes project management, executive support, and corporate social responsibility, with a special focus on environmental advocacy.

Norine’s lifelong passion for environmental stewardship is evident in her work. She has played a key role in coordinating impactful projects and driving operational efficiency in organizations that align with her values of sustainability and community impact.

“Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with amazing teams and contribute to meaningful projects across various industries. My passion lies in finding innovative solutions and building strong relationships that drive positive outcomes. I look forward to connecting with professionals who are equally passionate about making a difference!”

With Norine’s expertise and commitment to environmental advocacy, we know she will be a driving force behind the scenes at Project Forest, helping us grow and thrive.

Looking Forward

We’re excited to see the positive impact that both Josh and Norine will have on our organization, our partners, and the communities we serve. Please join us in welcoming them to the team!
